”Kumpaa maa rakastaa enemmän
unikkoa
vai kuusipuuta?”
Viimeisenä virallisena
vierailupäivänä meillä oli ohjelmaa vasta iltapäivällä, joten teimme hitaan
lähdön hotellilta ja kävimme aikaisemmin vierailemallamme basaarialueella.
Päivi oli lähdössä kotimatkalle lauantaina, joten hänellä oli viimeinen tilaisuus
tehdä tuliaisostoksia. Basaari oli lisäksi lähellä paikkaa, jossa Leonor
tarjoaisi meille vielä lounaan.
Basaarivielailun jälkeen meillä kesti kuitenkin
hetken ennen kuin löysimme oikeaan paikkaan, sillä karttaamme merkitty osoite
ei ollutkaan oikea. Toista tuntia käveltyämme, ehdotin,
että menisimme juomaan jotain virkistävää, sillä aurinko paistoi taas kuumana
ja soittaisimme sieltä Layalle. Niin myös tapahtui ja lopulta pääsimme perille
oikeaan paikkaan ja nautittuamme lounaan Leonorin kanssa. Lounaan jälkeen hän
tilasi meille pari taksia, jotka veivät meidät Santiagon eteläpuolella
sijaitsevaan Maipo-joen laaksoon. Täällä sijaitsee useita
viinitarhoja.
saimme maistella muutamia tuotteita. Kävimme myös viinikellareissa ja erääseen
vanhaan kellariin oli järjestetty myös valo- ja äänishow. Tämän jälkeen
pääsimme maistelemaan neljää eri viinilajia juustojen ja keksien kera ja
lopuksi vierailuun kuului luonnollisesti tilan kaupassa vierailu.
chileläisopettajien illanviettoon ja me muut jäimme altaalle istuskelemaan.

”Which one does the earth love more
a poppy or a fur
tree?”
As I mentioned before our
last official day’s program was a tough one. A lunch in the afternoon, provided
by the Chilean professor Leonor followed by a visit to one of the vineyards in
Maipo valley
So we started rather late in
the morning and as it was Päivi’s last day and she needed to do some shopping,
we went to the small bazaar area. That was close were we needed to be a bit
later so it suit everyone just fine. Päivi got what she needed and we then
decided to walk to the place where the lunch was to take place. Now, a small
problem arouse, the place wasn’t where it was marked on our map. No problem, we
walked here and there until the sun got the upper hand on us. Then me says, I
need a beer, let’s go to a pub nearby and call the others while we cool off.
This is what we did. When we
got our drinks, no I didn’t have a Pisco, I really needed a beer, we called
Laya and she told us that we were only about 10-15 minutes’ walk away. She’d
come to meet us at an intersection, we’d passed not so long ago. There she was
so went to have a lunch, which was probably the best meal I had on this trip so
thank you Leonor, yours were two in the top three. After lunch taxis were again
called for us and off we went to the last official thing on this excursion, a
tour of a vineyard
After an hour we arrive at
the oli
Concha Y Toro vineyards in the Maipo river valley just south of Santiago.
When I had my tour company in Thailand, I did visits to vineyards there,
so in that sense this was not a new thing. We were shown around and introduced
to the history of the place and the guide told us about the different grapes
that they cultivated. Have to say, there was plenty of them, some names I’d
never heard before. We were given a few glasses to taste and they also took us
to the cellars. Everything was nice but nothing new. Still, we all were happy.
There was even a light and sound show, which was quite nice. The tour ended
with wine tasting and we were given four different types of red wine
accompanied by some cheese and bisquits plus the explanations of the varieties.
Then it was to the shop and of course I also bought couple of bottles that I
thought I wouldn’t be able to buy back at home. Just for the Christmas table. A
Carmenere and a Pinot Noir.
After a pleasant afternoon
we returned to our hotel and spent the evening by the pool. This was the last
night that our group would spend together: Laya and Päivi would return to
Finland the next morning and Markku and Erika would start their holidays
somewhere north of Santiago. Markku and Erika joined the Chilean teachers for
the evening after a while, though as the rest of us had a few more moments by
the pool.
